Roosevelt Debate Sweeps Extemp Field in Kentucky
Three members of the Roosevelt debate team competed in the special round robin invitational for Extemp speaking at the Debate Tournament of Champions last week. The annual event is hosted by the University of Kentucky. Students must qualify to the tournament by successfully winning national circuit debate events around the country.
Roosevelt put on a show in the Extemp field sending three students to the final round of six. The other students in the final round were from New Jersey and Florida.
Roosevelt finished first-second and third, sweeping the event. Junior Lillian Nellans was the TOC Champion, Senior Carolyn Evans produced her best finish ever in a major event as the runner-up and Senior Nathan Leys was third. Leys also was in the final round of Original Oratory, finishing in fourth place.
