The former Simpson College coach, who also led Hoover High School to a state title in 2006, will take over the Roosevelt program for the 2015-16 season.

“Charles brings a wealth of experience to our school,” said principal Kevin Biggs. “His work as a college coach, his success at the high school level, and his career as an educator will make for a great fit at Roosevelt.”

Most recently Zanders was the men’s head basketball coach at Simpson College in Indianola. He stepped down in April after nearly six years in the position.  Prior to that he was the head boys’ basketball coach at Hoover High School for eight years, leading the Huskies to a state title in 2006, the first DMPS high school to win the crown since 1978.

As an educator, Zanders was the physical education teacher at Harding Middle School and the campus monitor at Hoover High School. He has also been a case worker with the PACE program at Orchard Place and the community outreach coordinator at Wilkie House.
