Student Wins Renewables Video Prize

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association announced Helena Gruensteidl as the grand prize winner of the of the 6th annual “Fuel the Future” video contest. The Roosevelt senior and Central Campus film student produced “Kirby’s Future,” an animated kernel of corn that aspires to become ethanol. 2016-2017 Scheduling

We will begin the scheduling process for the 2016-2017 school year starting at the end of January. Counselors will be going into classrooms starting on January 21st to advise students about academic pathways, graduation requirements and course selections for next year. Course scheduling will be completed by students during class in February via the online scheduling tool on Infinite Campus.

Bridges to Harmony Kicks Off Holiday Sounds

The Ola Babcock Miller Building, a State of Iowa office building at 1112 East Grand Avenue in Des Moines, hosted Roosevelt High School’s Bridges to Harmony Choir for some holiday music over the lunch hour last week. Roosevelt & Adverse Childhood Experiences

Gladys Noll Alvarez, who heads the Trauama Informed Care Project at Orchard Place, spoke to Roosevelt High School staff yesterday about the hazards of Adverse Childhood Experiences. The 50th Anniversary of the Tinker Armband Protest

The Roosevelt High School Foundation and Alumni Association is pleased to present the first annual Teddy Talks: The 50th Anniversary of the Tinker Armband Protest. Join us on Tuesday, December 15th at 7:00pm in the Roosevelt High School Auditorium for an evening to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the events resulting in the landmark Supreme Court case, Tinker vs. Des Moines Independent School District, which put a spotlight on Des Moines schools and established free speech protections for students.

Rider’s Brown: Coach of the Year Finalist

Roosevelt Boys’ Cross Country Coach Steve Brown has been named a finalist for Coach of the Year honors by the National Federation of State High School Associations. If Brown earns the NFHS award it will be the crowning achievement on an already distinguished resume that includes multiple state, regional and conference coach of the year honors, and leading three Rider teams to State XC titles. From storybooks to movies to a Broadway musical, the ogre Shrek along with Fiona, Donkey and a cast of hundreds are a staple of modern entertainment. Prentice, Fleming Head to State Cross Country

Congratulations to Harry Prentice and Megan Fleming on qualifying for the State Cross Country Championship! The Riders’ freshmen finished 8th and 12th, respectively, at yesterday’s qualifying meet in Ankeny. The State XC meet is in Fort Dodge on October 31.
